1. You may reuse your leftovers. It doesn’t mean that you just have to reheat it and eat the next meal. It is not a good idea microwaving your leftovers because it will just overcook the food and the food loses its texture.

2. Remake your leftover techniques and ideas. For leftover grains and legumes, you can make a quinoa salad, rice salad, or fry it to make some butter. You can add peas to make fried rice, as well as shredded carrots, bits of leftover ham, and toss it with tamari or soy sauce. You can fry leftover lentils and add Mexican seasoning.

3. Use your creativity and resourcefulness for leftover meats. Thinly slice pork, beef, and chicken, and add them to sandwiches, soups, or salads. Nothing can beat a cold roast beef served with mustard to dip and homemade biscuits for a simple lunch.

4. Never waste your leftover cereal or oatmeal. Make a simple snack for your kids by adding rice flour, eggs, honey, and a dash of cinnamon to make some patties.

5. It is best to organize your food leftovers. Organize your leftovers by placing your leftover in mason jars, a plastic-free alternative, and then add labels using a masking tape and marker. Do not forget to add the date.

6. Store your leftovers in the fridge. Use transparent containers to see the food inside because if you don’t see them, the food will likely go to waste.

7. One of the best ways to avoid food waste is serving small portions of food to children. Children who are served with one huge serving of food tend to be overwhelmed and ending wasting food, so it is best to have multiple servings instead.

8. Always have a food buying plan. More unnecessary food, more food waste. Create a list of ingredients for a particular week that will be good until your next supermarket shopping.
